June 24th, 2011

Ukraine is not the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks about pursuing a higher education in a European university. However, the country’s institutions of higher learning deserves some serious consideration.

English is a widely-accepted form of communication in academic circles, even as its official language is Ukrainian. Russian and Crimean Tatar are also used. This makes it easier for international students to adjust to life in this country.

It is hospitable to foreign students. The Ministry of Ukraine, in 1998, approved the “Clause about admission of foreigners and persons without citizenship for training in institutions of higher education,” which outlines the procedures for admission of foreigners to Ukrainian schools.

Ukraine’s private and government-funded universities confer bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accordance with the Bologna process, which means that the quality of academic degrees follow the standards set by the European Higher Education Area. This assures students that the Ukrainian degrees they hold are compatible with those from other European countries. That’s almost equivalent to getting higher education from France and Germany without the stratospheric tuition fees, miscellaneous and living costs.
