Report on SU 50th Anniversary
May, 2007
Dear Friends:
I would like to report to you regarding my visit with Mr. Ayvazian in Baltimore. This meeting was to discuss of how we can do the Shiraz University 50th Anniversary Celebration properly and successfully.
Mr. Ayvazian is the former president of SUAA and a member of the Steering Committee for the Celebration. The Committee consists of three people: Dr. Sadeghi the SU president and Dr. Imannieh the president of Shiraz Univ. of Med. Sciences. According to Mr. Ayvazain, most of the arrangements will be done by him due to the busy schedules of the two presidents. The Anniversary Congress will be held in Shiraz on October 17-19, 2007 (25-27 Mehr, 1386).
I went to Baltimore on April, 23 and was with Mr. Ayvazian until April 25. On April, 24th we made a trip to the University of Pennsylvania and visited the Vice President for the International Affairs, The Director of Middle Eastern Studies and the Head of the University Archives. These meetings were prearranged and we had useful talks with all. We let these U of Penn. Adminitrators know that since an important portion of the history of Shiraz (Pahlavi) University was based on the University of Pa. establishing the academic curriculum, committees and the administrartion hierarchy of Pahlavi University, they can participate in the events in any way that they can. Mr. Ayvazain gave a number of nice and informative booklets and brochures about SU and SUMS to these individuals to let them know the present standing of the two institutions.
Overall the meetings were constructive. Mr. Ayvazian on his trip to LA was also able to meet with Dr. Mehr (a former chancellor of SU and an important part of our university history) and also with two of our active SUA Board members, Dr. Benrashid and Dr. Hassan Ronaghy and discussed
the Celebration Events. In my talks with him, Mr. Ayvazain stated that he would ask the two presidents to send formal invitations to our SUA members who would like to attend. My wife and I are planning to attend and I encourage each one of you to plan ahead and participate if you can. You can contact Mr. Ayvazain or/and me. if you plan to attend and you need information.
Sincerely,
Mohammad Behforouz, Ph.D.
SUA Board President
