Dr. Rostami, M.D., Ph.D., is the Chair of the Department of Neurology at both Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He is an eminent expert on multiple sclerosis. Dr. Rostami is the author of more than 100 scientific papers, reviews and chapters. He has given more than 130 presentations in national and international meetings as well as an invited speaker to many conferences. Dr. Rostami which is currently the principal investigator of projects for extensive research in multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology has been funded by more than 13 million dollars from the national Institutes of Health and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. He is the recipient of many awards including the Special Recognition Award from the Guillain-Barre' Syndrome Foundation International as well as Outstanding Service and Outstanding Leadership Award from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and The Royal Society of Medicine in London as well as a member of a Number of Prestigious National and International Multiple Sclerosis Society, Delaware Valley Chapter. He is also on the medical advisory board for the Guillain-Barre' Syndrome Foundation International. He has served on various study sections of the National Institutes of Health and as a consultant for the Veteran Administration Medical Research Program, as well as the Italian and Australian Multiple Sclerosis Societies. At present he serves as a deputy editor-in-chief of “Multiple Sclerosis” and he is a member of the editorial board of several other journals. Dr. Rostami has also been professor and mentor of a large number of undergraduate/graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. Dr. Abdolmohammad Rostami received his M.D. degree from Pahlavi (now Shiraz) University in 1974 with highest honors. Following his residency training at Shiraz Medial Hospitals, he completed a residency in neurology and a fellowship in neuroimmunology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He received a Ph.D. degree in molecular biology in 1981 from the University of Pennsylvania.
