DR. FARHANG MEHR

Dr. Farhang Mehr, PH.D., is Professor Emeritus of International relation at Boston University . He is an educator, lawyer and economist. Throughout his life Professor Mehr tirelessly and unselfishly served his country of Iran in many capacities with devotion, love, honesty and great skill. He served as President of Pahlavi (Shiraz) University, President of the Iran National Insurance Company, Deputy, Prime Minister, Deputy and Acting Minister of Finance, and Governor of Iran in OPEC Board of Governors as well as Chairman of the Reinsurance Center in RCD under the previous regime. He had had a long academic career and had taught at several universities and colleges including Tehran University, Melli University, Pahlavi ( Shiraz ) University, the Military Academy, and the High School of Accountancy . He was the Founder/President of Tehran College of Insurance. Dr. Mehr has served on the Boards of Trustees of University of Kerman, College of Computers and Communication, Institute of Political Research and Strategy, and the Royal Commission on Higher Education. Under his outstanding leadership and with the close collaboration of a very talented and highly educated faculty, the following academic expansion took place at Pahlavi University during his tenure as chancellor: the creation of School of education in 1976, the School of Law in 1977, and a Medical School in Fasa. Physical expansion included construction of new wards in Nemazi and `Saadi Hospitals, annexation of the Social Welfare and Ghotbodin Hospital to Pahlavi University, completion of the construction of the college of Veterinary Medicine, construction of the new building for the College of Sciences and Humanities and student dormitories on the hill campus, a new medical library, a comprehensive university club with a 36 room hotel, and an observatory as well as museum of natural history. Professor Mehr has authored 10 books and over one hundred articles in Persian and English. He has widely lectured in many countries and has given numerous television and radio interviews. Dr. Mehr received BA. B-Sc. ( Tehran ), LLM ( London ), Ph.D. (Southampton) and L.L.D (Honoris Causa) University of Pennsylvania. At present Dr. Mehr is living in Boston with his wife Parichehr and they have three children Mehrdad, Mehran and Mitra.
