Report on the Conference/Reunion of Nov. 23-26, 2006, Las Vegas , Nevada

Dear Friends:

It was nice to see all of you at the recent Shiraz University Conference / Reunion in Las Vegas. As you will agree with me, it was a fruitful and a memorable gathering to hear excellent lectures and renew our bonds with our dear friends. It was nice to see a number of friends from Iran as well. We tried very hard, by continuously contacting the USA Consul in Dubai to have more friends from Iran , but their visas issued late. For the next reunion, we need to start earlier for the visa applications.

For more information about the reunion presentations and other activities, please look at the program and see the contents of the excellent presentations and panel discussions given by our competent SUA members. Please also look at the Minutes of the SUA Board Meetings of Nov 23 and 26 and see what the Board has decided how to give help to Shiraz University Faculty and Students. For this purpose a number of Committees have been proposed and their functions are described. Please click on the SUA Committees link and see what they are. If you wish to be a committee member and/or help SUA in any fashion, please contact me. Soon, we will inform you when the Committees will start their functions, so that you can directly contact the committees’ Chairs. As you know the SUA has been approved by the IRS to be a Tax Exempt Organization and in that capacity we need to function. Any contribution by you will be Tax deductible and you will receive a receipt from SUA for your Tax Returns.

I invite you to look at the beautiful pictures of this gathering. If you wish to order pictures, please select those pictures you want to have and contact Mr. Akbarpour , our Web site manager. We also have a large number of pictures, especially group pictures which are not posted on the site and we will include yours in the CD and mail it to you. The cost will be $15 including shipping and the money will be deposited in a Scholarship Fund to support needy students at Shiraz University . Please, make the check payable to SUA and send it to Mr. Akbarpour.

 At the Reunion, we sold copies of the book entitled: Medical Education in Shiraz , A Personal Memoir by Zabih Ghorban, M.D.

This book is the history of Shiraz University , especially of the SU Medical School and it will be nice to have a copy of it in your library in memory of the late Dr. Ghorban. The price of the book including shipping is $25 and the money will be deposited in the Ghorban’s Fund which has been established in affiliation with the SUA. This fund will help the Shiraz University Students in their research and in their living expenses. If you order a CD of your pictures and the Ghorban’s book, the total cost will be $35.
