A Message from the SUA Board President
Dear Friends;
I am hoping to see all of you at the Shiraz University Conference/Reunion in Las Vegas on November 22 – 26 at Hampton Inn Tropicana. We have a great program planned with a significant number of experts participating and presenting talks. There will be a session in memory of late Dr. Ghorban, the Founder of Shiraz University, with Dr. Farhang Mehr giving the Keynote Speech and the former students of Dr. Ghorban sharing with us their memories of this great man.
We will have other interesting talks as well as several panels discussing relevant subjects especially those facing the Iranian American communities. Please click on the Program Link and look at the series of talks and panels in greater detail.
Other conference/reunion events, including the Gala Night with Persian food, dance and entertainment by the popular Iranian Singer Ms. Jooliet and her band will be something to enjoy and remember, especially in the company of good friends.
A piece of good news that I would like to share is that quite a number of friends from our Alumni in Iran , through the efforts of SUA, have been able to obtain visas for attending our conference/reunion.
We are expecting a large turn out for the conference/reunion and it is the hope of the SUA Board of Directors that in our gathering we will come up with methods by which all of us can help our associates, students and alumni of our university in their professional and academic endeavors.
There will be a panel to discuss and seek ways by which our organization can offer meaningful help to our associates. I encourage each of you to spend a small amount of your time and come up with a way that you individually can help the SUA in its mission. We need to expand on some of the activities that a number of our members are already doing such as helping students or colleagues in Iran and here in their professions or presenting papers especially at the Shiraz University or SUAA or other universities in Iran.
Up to now, we have been able to prepare and approve the SUA Bylaws, register the SUA as a corporation in the State of California and filed and recently clarified a detailed application and records with the IRS for a Tax Exempt Status.
A great way to help strengthen the mission of our association will be to serve as a member of the SUA Board of Directors.
If you would like to be nominated as a candidate for the election of the SUA Board of Directors, please contact Dr. Khatamee, Chair of the Election Committee at frfbaby@msn.com . The election will be held for 10 Board slots at the conference/reunion Meeting on Saturday Nov. 25 th.
For the Conference/Reunion Program, Please contact Dr. Ajami, Program Committee Chair at: aajami@u.arizona.edu. For conference/reunion registration and hotel reservation information please click on the conference/reunion Link.
I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the Conference/Reunion.
Sincerely,
Mohammad Behforouz, Ph.D.
SUA Board President
